When I Say I’m Rooting for Everybody Black, This is What I Don’t Mean.

I’ve been saying this for years but I’m glad our good sis IssaRae turned my hot line into a hot song. “I’m rooting for everybody Black.” Funny enough, I started saying those same words as a teen/young adult when I started watching award shows and would be asked who I was rooting for. I don’t watch award shows anymore but what hasn’t changed is my love for the Black Team, but there are some exceptions now. No longer do I look at the Black bourgeoisie and elitist and support them because they are melanin rich. Doing that now would mean I’m rooting for black folks like Diddy, the Obamas, Oprah, Bill Cosby, R. Kelly (Yikes) and others who aren’t representative of the black people I root for without compromising my morals. aside from idle worship, there are melanin rich people who are not famous but make greenbacks exploiting black bodies. Speaking of the exploitation of black bodies, have you looked into Black Lives Matter lately? There’s no way I can morally root for an organization like that. Then you have black cops who do the most shucking and bucking in front of their white counter-parts. A story in itself worthy of its own focus.

I’m going to end this here by saying I love us. Sadly not all of us, but there once was a time I prayed for the skinfolk to be kinfolk. I once prayed that my heart would one day be filled with more love to give to the skinfolk that aren’t kinfolk. None of my prayers were answered. That’s what happens when you pray to white Jesus, huh? On the flip side, that just means there’s more love for black people who don’t exploit us, cheat, steal, demean and deceive us.

I love us. Especially those who really love us.
