What Good is Rank Choice Voting When There Are No Good Choices?

SERIOUSLY, what good does it have, then? New Yorkers might not believe their mayoral choices are bad, but this out of towner does. Okay, not bad, but mostly underwhelming, while the rest of them are bad.

I’m not going to waste time and energy writing about my thoughts on all of the candidates. I’m willing to have that conversation offline or virtually if you want to. The focus of this piece is rank choice voting and how even “meh” candidates sully the reputation of rank choice voting. Leave it to the same state that removed 3rd Party candidates from the 2020 Presidential Primaries and implemented new regulations to make it harder for 3rd Party’s to make it on the ballot to pull some faux-progressive shit like rank choice voting during this mayoral primary. In this case, rank choice voting is a faux-progressive act. It just so happens that there’s no Berniecrats or true progressive candidates rendering New Yorkers to once again vote for the “lesser of two evils” with nearly 7 times the “evil.” Rank choice voting experiments in the past prove that a “Bernie” or an “Ernie” can actually win a race, and that normally scares the donkeys and the elephants, but this time there’s no panthers creeping on the come-up.

Rank Choice Votings Grand Opening & Closing.

What I predict to come from Gotham City’s madness is there will be plenty of recounts and organized chaos to cause confusion. This will be done purposely so members from both major parties come together and denounce rank choice voting or only entertain the method when there are many bad/not so good choices. Democrats will say they believe in it because “it is the progressive thing to do” and Republicans will say they are all about freedom and the first amendment. Both of them perfectly fine with being the complete opposite of what they claim to stand for, especially if it meant they can get away with cheating a Bernie or a radical.
