Public Enemies.

Never thought I’d see the day when Chuck D and Flava Flav went at one another on social media like they were born in the 90s or the year 2000. I’m a long time P.E. fan so I’ve been privy to all of their disputes, or at least the one’s they’ve made public, but this latest break up has to be the worse one yet. Here are the screenshots captured by yours truly showing Public Enemy’s public spat.

Chuck D’s Tweets.

Flava Flav’s Tweets.

FREAKING YIKES!!!!! Never mind the ghetto screenshot format. It’s not as messy as these two “mature” aged men having a public breakup. Never in my almost 29 years of living would I have seen something like this happening with such an iconic group. When I followed Chuck D he would often times get on his “old man” rants about young folks behavior on social media. Me being one of the young folk who didn’t “act up” the way most people my generation or younger did online, I enjoyed these “old man” lectures. Even if he did bring up some things I was guilty of doing I still took heed to that advice because it was the honorable Mr. Chuck D of Public Enemy speaking these wise stern words. Look at his Tweets and tell me if he looks like someone who is qualified in telling the younger generations how to behave online? I never followed Flavor Flav. My only issue with his part in this public break up is he made it public (he also kind of made his relationship with P.E. bad by bringing in lawyers, YIKES!). I’m 100% sure Flav has Chuck’s number. I’m 100% sure Chuck has Flav’s number. I’m 1,000% sure these two could have said these things to one another the good old fashion way. In person or on the phone, but instead we got this public sh*t show.

Somebody’s got to be the voice of reason here. Might as well be me. Chuck D’s response was clearly out of anger, but he should have never belittled Flav as just some crackhead who does things for money. No matter how public Flav has been or the news has been about his past drug addiction, to put down a brother like that is not cool. When people steep that low I feel like those were harbored thoughts that finally came out. I’m not certain of that so don’t take my thoughts as facts. In regards to Flav only doing things for money, well that’s not necessarily a bad thing but I can see why it would be bad in the case of endorsing a Presidential candidate. If you’re reading this Flav, just know that I’m with you. I’m all about “the bag” too, but I know my limits. Politicians buying their support and taking money to “look the other way” is a major issue and no amount of money will get me to be for that. It also just looks hella fake when it comes out that a celebrity was paid to support a politician or a cause.

My final say, as much as it pains me to say this, these two just need to be separated (they also need to stay off social media or get off their social media soapbox on what it means to be responsible on social media). I don’t think they should end a 35 year long friendship, but I think this situation and the ones in the past just prove that Flav and the rest of the P.E. group just need to not do business with one another ever again. All of their issues seem to revolve around money (or the lack there of). No, this isn’t a “money is the root of all evil” message or an anti-capitalism PSA. Greed is to blame for all of that. Not saying Flav is greedy, because I can identify with being “about the bag,” but you got to know when to hold that bag and when to fold that bag… and you can’t fold the bag when there’s money in it, but you can when there is nothing in it… I hope these two much older gentlemen take heed to my young OG advice. It’s time to shut up and listen, and I say that with the upmost respect and love for these two and the rest of the P.E. group. Shout out to Professor Griff! Whatever they decide to do as a group or not I want them to continue to FIGHT THE POWER!

*Added note* If the situation is political, I don’t think these two should end a 35 year old friendship because Flav doesn’t want to endorse Bernie. To my knowledge he hasn’t shown any support for any candidate. He might not be into politics. That shouldn’t be held against him like people shouldn’t shame those who are heavily into politics. Sad to see another friendship breakup because of politics, but I strongly believe people can get over any difference they have. There just needs to be a want from both parties to fix things.
