This is not going to be a long piece. I just want to give my hero his praise while he is living. I know we all do, but this is deeper than a super fan of his comedic work. This is about a black man win without selling himself or his people out. If you’re triggered by the words “black” or “black man,” that is your problem. Write your own Dave Chappelle appreciation piece. If you’re going to stick around you should focus on what Dave you can learn from the living legend that is Dave Chappelle. If you’re a man of integrity and principle Dave’s wins should be celebrate by you. For my black brothers out there Dave Chappelle is another shining example of what we can accomplish when we stick to our guns.

His fight with Comedy Central, to leveraging his power with Netflix, to turning down 50 million dollars just to make over two times that seven years later.

Seeing Dave continuously win battle after battler inspires me. Every. Single. Time. I see a man who makes millions being a non-conformist. I see an artist from a totally different avenue of art still valuing his art and himself despite many others in his industry willing to bend over to “secure the bag.” As a writer, podcaster, outspoken black man I can look at people like Dave Chappelle and know I can and will win being me as long as I continue to follow my own code.

Thank you, Mr. Chappelle.

This is why you’re the greatest of all time.
